There is no better way to arrive at a private game reserve than from the air. Landing directly on Onguma’s private airstrip puts guests in the bush from the moment they touch down. An open game drive vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to your camp, and your safari begins immediately.
Hangar and Parking
Onguma has a completed undercover aircraft parking area of 30m x 15m, clear span and open-ended, suitable for aircraft up to Caravan size. The hangar floor and taxiway are concrete surfaced, ensuring a safe and easy transition from the calcrete runway to the parking area. 5 x 5 m concrete run-up pads are located at both ends of the runway, and turning circles have been established at both the eastern and western ends.
Hazards
Pilots should note the following hazards before arrival:
- Runway surface: Calcrete gravel. Exercise caution when wet, as the surface may be slippery during or shortly after rain
- Powerlines: Located 600m east of the eastern threshold
- Gravel track: A gravel track runs 70m parallel to the runway on the south side. Do not attempt to land on this track
- Wildlife: The airfield is unfenced. Extreme caution must be exercised at all times to avoid game on or adjacent to the runway

Important Information for Pilots and Operators
- Transfer time from the airstrip to any Onguma camp is approximately 20 minutes by open game drive vehicle
- Please ensure the correct ETA is forwarded to the Onguma reservations team along with your booking confirmation, clearly stating that guests will be landing at Onguma Airfield
- Please confirm the correct airfield with reservations at the time of booking
- Confirm refuelling requirements prior to arrival (not available)
- Please note that the flying of drones anywhere on Onguma Nature Reserve is strictly prohibited
