The Dream Cruiser Adventure Sleep-Out at Onguma Nature Reserve
Some experiences are difficult to put into words until you have had them. The Dream Cruiser is one of them. Custom built onto a Land Cruiser and positioned out in the wilderness of the reserve, it offers guests the chance to spend a night in the African bush in complete comfort and total privacy, with nothing between you and the sounds, smells, and atmosphere of the Namibian night. For adventurers, romantics, and anyone who wants to experience the reserve beyond the boundaries of camp, this is unlike anything else Onguma offers.

What Is the Dream Cruiser?
The Dream Cruiser is a custom-built two-level sleep-out vehicle, designed specifically for an overnight experience in the bush. The lower level features a full bathroom with shower, flush toilet, and basin. The upper level is a bedroom with a lounge area, a comfortable double bed, and 180-degree views of the surrounding wilderness, with side panels that can be kept up or lowered depending on how connected to the bush you want to feel.
Away from the lights of camp, the reserve takes on an entirely different character after dark. Sounds carry differently. The night sky opens up in a way that is difficult to appreciate from inside a camp. And the sense of being genuinely out in the wilderness, with the reserve moving around you in the darkness, is something that stays with guests long after the morning coffee has been drunk and the drive back to camp has begun.
A guide is on call throughout the night via two-way radio, so the experience is as safe as it is immersive.
How Does a Dream
Cruiser Evening Work?
Guests have the option of being taken directly from their camp to the Dream Cruiser’s chosen location, or heading out on a leisurely drive through the reserve first, arriving as the light begins to drop. Either way, you will be welcomed with sundowner drinks and a full orientation of the vehicle before the evening begins.
As the sun sets over Onguma and the evening sounds start to come alive around you, a picnic-style selection of food and pre-selected chilled drinks is laid out for dinner. The setting does the rest. If you are celebrating a special occasion, the team can arrange wine or champagne on request.
In the morning, guests wake to coffee or tea with homemade rusks before being collected and taken back to their camp for breakfast. It is a gentle return to the world, and most guests find themselves reluctant to make it.
Who Is the Dream Cruiser For?
The Dream Cruiser is an experience for two people only, making it a natural choice for couples, honeymooners, and anyone looking for something genuinely romantic and out of the ordinary. It is equally well suited to adventurous travellers who simply want to spend a night closer to the bush than a camp room allows.
It is worth noting that the Dream Cruiser must be booked in conjunction with a camp night and is not available as a standalone overnight. Children are not permitted on this experience.
Booking the Dream Cruiser
The Dream Cruiser is available to guests staying at all Onguma reserve camps, and to campsite guests at an additional surcharge. Given that it accommodates a maximum of two guests per night, availability is limited and advance booking is strongly recommended. The experience can be booked at the time of your accommodation reservation or at the camp up to 24 hours before your preferred date, subject to availability.
