Safari Camps on offer

How to Choose the Right Camp

The best starting point is understanding what kind of experience you are looking for. If exclusivity and five-star service are the priority, Camp Kala is the answer. If you are travelling as a family with younger children, Bush Camp or Forest Camp will serve you best. If romance and waterhole views are what you are after, Tented Camp or The Fort is hard to look past. If you want to spend your days on foot in the bush, Trails Camp is built around exactly that. And if you are moving through Namibia on a self-drive itinerary, Tamboti or Leadwood will put you exactly where you need to be.

Still not sure? Our team is happy to help you find the right fit.

Camps at Onguma

Onguma Camp Kala Namibia

- Ultra Luxury, Four Suites, Five Star

Camp Kala is one of a small number of truly ultra-luxury safari camps in Namibia. Named on the Condé Nast Traveller Hotlist in 2023, its four suites, designed by Nick Plewman Architects and Fox Browne Creative, rise above the reserve on elevated decks, each with a private plunge pool and dedicated butler service. For couples and discerning travellers who want a safari that is entirely bespoke, Camp Kala sets a standard that is difficult to match anywhere in the country.

  • Ideal for: Couples, honeymooners, luxury travellers
  • Children: No children under 12 years. No third bed available.

- Upper-Tier Tented Luxury, Waterhole Views, Intimate

One of Onguma’s upper-tier camps, Tented Camp combines the romance of canvas with a level of comfort and service that leaves nothing to be desired. Seven luxury tents look out over a productive waterhole, each with dedicated butler service and the kind of setting that slows everything down. The rhythm here is gentle: early drives, slow afternoons, and sundowners as the light leaves the sky. For couples and discerning travellers who want intimacy without sacrificing a thing.

  • Ideal for: Couples, honeymooners, discerning travellers
  • Children: No children under 12 years. No third bed available.
Onguma The Fort

- Award-Winning Architecture, Fischer's Pan Views

The Fort is unlike anything else in Namibia. Its award-winning architecture is unmistakable, but what truly sets it apart is the view. Perched overlooking Fischer’s Pan, with Etosha National Park stretching out beyond, it offers some of the most remarkable sunsets in the country. As the sky turns and the pan catches the last of the light, there are few better places in Namibia to be sitting with a drink in hand.

  • Ideal for: Couples, architecture enthusiasts, mid-to-high market travellers
  • Children: No children under 7 years

- A Walking Safari Experience

Trails Camp is Onguma’s dedicated walking adventure: an intimate, all-inclusive glamping experience built around guided walks of six to eight kilometres each morning. Over two to three nights, small groups of up to eight guests explore the reserve on foot, guided by Onguma’s expert team trained under walking safari specialist Alan McSmith. Hot tubs, attentive service, and an all-inclusive structure make it as comfortable as it is immersive. For guests whose priority is time on foot in the bush, Trails Camp is built around exactly that.

  • Ideal for: Adventure travellers, walking safari enthusiasts, nature immersion
Bush Camp Onguma Namibia

- Family-Friendly, and Relaxed

Eighteen rooms, including loft configurations and family units, sit within a largely fenced environment overlooking one of the reserve’s most active waterholes. The lounge, treetop hide, and pool deck all look directly out over the water, making the camp as rewarding to sit still in as it is to head out from. The atmosphere is relaxed and genuinely warm, with staff who know how to make a stay feel personal without it ever feeling formal. Families travelling with children will find Bush Camp is one of only two fenced, child-friendly options on the reserve.

  • Ideal for: Families, mid-market travellers
  • Children: All ages welcome

- Fenced, Family-Friendly, and Deep in the Tamboti Forest

Tucked along one of Onguma’s most ancient riverbeds, Forest Camp sits within a canopy of tamboti forest that feels a world apart. The camp is fenced and child-friendly, making it a natural choice for families who want the bush experience without compromise. Comfortable, relaxed, and well-priced, it is also an ideal base for self-drive travellers exploring Etosha, with the Von Lindequist Gate a short drive away.

  • Ideal for: Families, self-drive travellers, budget-conscious guests
  • Children: All ages welcome

Just four minutes from the Von Lindequist Gate, the campsite has 25 carefully placed spots designed with privacy in mind. A fully stocked store covers the essentials, and a restaurant overlooking a waterhole means the sundowner situation is already sorted. You bring your vehicle and your sense of adventure. Leadwood is a different kind of camping experience. Located within walking distance of Bush Camp, it is designed for groups who want to book an entire site exclusively, with the space, privacy, and atmosphere that comes from having the bush entirely to yourselves. If you are travelling with family or friends and want a base that feels genuinely your own, Leadwood delivers that without compromise. If not travelling in a group, the campsite can still be booked individually.
